Sankofa Freedom Academy Visits

Twenty five middle school students from Sankofa Freedom Academy Summer Program will visit Solebury Meeting on July 16 . They will participate in multiple events which include an Orientation to the Underground Rail Road in Solebury, Blue Berry picking at Manoffs Market and an historic hike on the Delaware Canal Trail  ending at Dillys Corner Ice Cream.

Students will gain an overview of local Friends’ involvement and assistance with African American Freedom Seekers journey in our neighborhood. Singing and analyzing spiritual hymns related to the northward quest for freedom are planned. Local safe houses will be identified along with roadway routes.

Following the program, the students travel to Manoffs Market for Blue Berry picking and an overview of fruit farming by owner Amy Manoff.

The day will end with a picnic lunch at Virginia Forest along the Delaware River and hiking to Dillys Corner for ice cream treats. The young scholars will then return to their Philadelphia based Freedom Academy Charter School with Director, Brother Brian Glover and staff.
