Chiyo Moriuchi is the CEO/Executive Director of Friends Village (“FV”), a Quaker retirement community in Newtown, PA. A life-long member of the Religious Society of Friends, Chiyo grew up in Moorestown (NJ) Monthly Meeting, graduated from Moorestown Friends School and has served on the boards of Medford Leas, the Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation (successor to Friends Hospital), and George School. She also served on PYM’s last General Secretary Search Committee and as clerk of Newtown Monthly Meeting. She led a workshop at last summer’s Friends General Conference on Governance of Quaker organizations. Chiyo believes that the vitality of Quakerism and the strength of Quaker organizations are inter- dependent and that the world needs more of both. Quaker organizations are living demonstrations of our values and our most vibrant forms of outreach. Chiyo’s business career was in international real estate and finance. She is a social entrepreneur, speaks publicly on the incarceration of Japanese-Americans during WWII and is an aspiring storyteller. She earned her BA from Mount Holyoke College and both an MBA and MPH from Columbia University.
